Elon Musk and Chat GPT

Chat-bot ChatGPT has been in the news this week, especially after its test release in November 2022.

Where there is AI involved, there’s always one name that pops up - Elon Musk.  Elon Musk is the world's richest person and an early backer of OpenAI (Chat GPT’s parent organization).

He was a part of OpenAI’s board of directors but resigned in 2018. This move might have been to avoid a future clash of interest as Tesla has also expanded the same field.

Musk declared that students can now kiss goodbye to homework. He recently tweeted about ChatGPT’s capability to write convincing essays that cannot be detected by anti-plagiarism tools.

He wrote on twitter: “It’s a new world.Goodbye homework!” In December, Musk called ChatGPT “scary good” and said that we are not far from dangerously strong AI.

Based on such statements, it feels that he has some concerns about the potential dangers of AI. However, he has always been an admirer of AI in the past, owing to an extensive use of AI in Tesla cars.

Among experts, there is a mixed feeling about Chat GPT. Some are amazed while some are concerned that it would hamper Google’s search business.

Also, there is a major concern from teachers and schools that Chat GPT will promote unethical practices and help students cheat.
